The dog decides the reinforcer

The world isn’t split into neat categories of “these things always reinforce behaviour” and “these things are always punishments”. Our dogs determine where things fit for them depending on 1) the individual & 2) the context. Their behaviour & attitude communicates that to us if we are ready to listen. Use what works for that individual in that context, because their opinion is the one that matters.
