The Board and Train

Why Board and Train?

Behaviour change can be a challenging process, especially when you are learning alongside your dog & trying to fit in the volume of training needed alongside work and family commitments. In this program we can devote multiple sessions a day to your dogs training throughout the weekdays AND coach you along the way, meaning more consistency and faster, more reliable results.

Great if your dog:

  • Doesn’t come back reliably when called.

  • Pulls on leash when out walking.

  • Ears turn off around some distractions.

  • Pulls, barks and lunges on leash at other dogs, vehicles etc.

  • Is fearful or anxious about certain environments.

  • Is young/new to you and just needs some foundation skills.

Why choose Wolfe Dogs?

We run board and train with a difference.

Dog training is as much about training YOU as it is about the dog. That’s why integrating you throughout the training process is so important to our board and train structure. All dogs must have completed an initial assessment ($240) to determine if this program is the right fit for you and your needs and get started on some basic training. If appropriate to join this program:

Each week your dog will join us Tuesday morning - Saturday, living at our home as part of the family. We only take 2-3 training dogs at a time meaning plenty of 1-1 attention. This gives us the opportunity for multiple training sessions a day, working towards your goals with your dog and reinforcing new behaviour patterns at home and out and about.

On Saturday each week we will meet up for an owner coaching session, where we work with YOU and your dog. We want you practicing together and building the skills and relationship you need as a team to be successful long term.

Your dog will then return home for Saturday night through to Tuesday morning so you can continue implementing these changes and be a central part of the behaviour change program. We want to see changes that work not just in our home, but in yours too.

Our standard program is 4 weeks. In more significant reactivity or aggression cases, we may request 6-8 weeks (in collaboration with you).

Some variations may apply depending on the needs of the dog, owners location and needs. But no matter what - you must be as committed and involved in your dogs learning as we are. Change happens at both ends of the leash.

Meet Kelly - your dog trainer & behaviour consultant

I’m a qualified (NDTF) dog trainer & behaviour consultant, with extensive experience across a wide range of breeds and behavioural needs. With a background in farming, dog rescue, dog sports and 5 years pet dog training, we take a practical & supportive approach - working with who the dog is as an individual, training the behaviours they need and empowering owners to feel confident enjoying a bigger, less stressful life with their dogs.

When your dog is with me they are treated as one of my own. They’ll join us on our lifestyle block, where we have a dedicated dog room where each dog is securely crated overnight. During the day we’ll utilise the paddocks, indoor spaces as well as field trips out and about to work on your target behaviours - mixing training, play, exercise, social interactions and rest time in their kennel to help them reach their potential.

FAQs

Is this suitable for my dog and situation?

Board and trains are a great option for general obedience foundations, as well as many behavioural needs such as confidence building in a nervous/anxious dog, addressing reactivity towards other dogs/people/vehicles etc, and dogs whose ears turn off around distractions. This program is not suitable for dogs who have a human bite history, break out of crates, or have behavioural challenges that occur exclusively in your home environment.

Will this fix all of my dogs problems?

This program is designed to make significant progress on the behavioural goals we have agreed upon, and we have a strong track record of happy dogs and owners as a result of our training. However dog behaviour is not like programming a computer - lasting changes require consistent effort and change from their owners. This is why we have ensured we train owners as well as dogs, so you can gain the skills and confidence to put these changes in place. However because owners are such a big part of this equation, we cannot make guarantees as to outcomes.

How much will it cost?

$240 initial consultation to meet you and your dog, assess the situation and start working on practical training. If suitable for the board and train program, this is charged at $750/week incl GST for the Tuesday-Saturday program. This comes to $3,000 for the minimum 4 week program suited to most challenges.

What does my dog need to know and have before attending?

Due to the nature of our in home program, we require a few foundational skills and health requirements to be in place first before they come to stay. This can be discussed during our initial assessment if needed, but includes:

  • Able to settle in a crate overnight/as needed.

  • Muzzle trained (in cases where there is a bite risk).

  • Microchipped, council registered, vaccinated and in general good health.

Let’s work together.
