Training doesn’t make up for not meeting the dogs needs

There’s no getting around it.

If you want your dog to be their best sane and stable self, training alone isn’t going to get you there. Yes it is important and with the support of a trainer it could 100% change your life with your dog for the better with a better communication system and relationship. If you’re Waipa based, I’m happy to help get you on the right track.

But if your dogs basic needs aren’t being met then all the obedience training in the world isn’t going to make up for that.

Each dog is an individual in what they need, but on the whole -

⭐️ This looks like a nutritious diet with a variety of food over the week.

⭐️ This looks like a healthy, pain free body.

⭐️ This looks like regular heart pumping exercise that leaves them properly tired and ready to chill. Even on week days. A slow 30 minute stroll around the block just isn’t enough for a dog bred for work, nor is “having a big backyard”.

⭐️ This looks like slower, low arousal exercise eg structured walking, sniffing, just hanging out being a dog.

⭐️ This looks like mental work, where they have to think and problem solve. Especially work that your particular type of dog was bred to enjoy.

⭐️ This looks like *doing nothing*, lying down on their bed or in a crate and properly switching off. It’s not healthy to be constantly on the alert.

A fulfilled dog is ready to learn, and is in a better headspace to handle life. It’s amazing how many issues can be mostly resolved just by getting this right. Make this stuff a priority and the obedience & peaceful life you’re after will fall into place that much easier.
