Is it a behaviour problem, or is it just an excellent dog who just happens to be unemployed?

Is it a behaviour problem, or is it an excellent dog who just happens to be unemployed?
Our breeds were all developed with specific purposes in mind. We selected for traits that supported that work, to develop the breeds we know and love as pet dogs today.
But just because they’ve gone from working kennels to living on our couches, does not mean they’re not still workers at heart. Many of the “behaviour problems” we see today are these same genetic traits their ancestors were celebrated for, being misdirected in their pet home with nowhere else to go.
Choose the dog that suits your lifestyle.
Learn about and celebrate their heritage and the traits they are prized for.
And give your dog a job to direct that energy into and learn to have some control around those behaviours, working with those traits not against them. If the original job is not available or appropriate for you, play (style adjusted to suit your dog) and obedience training can cover most boxes.
Your dog and your sanity will thank you.
