Finding dog walks in New Zealand

I often hear about how non-dog friendly NZ is, and peoples struggles to find good adventure spots. While that’s more true of some areas than others, it’s very much a case of seek and you will find! We’ve been fortunate to explore from Northland down to Southland, and have been amazed at some of the adventures we’ve been able to enjoy with the dogs, with many more on the horizon.

While I’m not sharing a lot of specific walking spots these days due to the issue of popularity ruining great off the beaten track spots, here’s where you can look to start planning your next roadie with the dog. Some of the best adventures come in the least assuming spots, and half the fun is in seeking them out and exploring for yourself.

As always, please respect dog access rules (which may include seasonal restrictions especially around coastal areas), keep your dog under control & clean up after them to ensure we can continue to enjoy adventures with our dogs for years to come. Kiwi avoidance is also a great idea if heading bush.

If you are excited for summer adventures but aren’t sure how your dog will handle it - now is the time to get training! I offer owner coaching services throughout Waipa and Hamilton, with a special interest in working type dogs & their humans who want to get out and do cool shit with them!
